MeraSnap..digital photo printing & delivery picks up in India

by Amit Ranjan on Aug 16, 2006

mera1.jpgIt seems that digital photo printing & delivery is a web based business, that is catching on in India quite fast. I profiled PicSquare on this blog some time back. MeraSnap is another Bangalore based website, that is trying to make gain a foothold in the same space.

It is interesting to note that MeraSnap is founded by the promoters of Knowledgeworkz, a Bangalore based information management consulting company. They want to benchmark MeraSnap against the standards set by popular international sites like Shutterfly, SnapFish and Kodak EasyShare. MeraSnap is targeted at NRIs and India-based digital camera users, who want to send photo prints to their folks located elsewhere in India.

The MeraSnap site has a simple layout/design and is easy to use. You can create a free account, upload digital photographs to it and have photo prints delivered to your friends & relatives after paying for it online. The photographs can be delivered anywhere in India by courier.

I have recently been exposed to a bunch of websites that are operating in this space and I can sense competition hotting up, which is always good for users. I think that the basic service of printing & delivering digital photographs has low entry barriers and that’s the reason, why it is likely to become a commoditized business pretty soon. What can be a differentiator, is any value added offering that is bundled along with the basic service. To that end, my suggestion to the MeraSnap team is to try to look beyond their existing offering and explore ways of enhancing the perceived value of the service, that users are getting from their website.

Avnish suggests that a company called eYaadein.com is the best for digital photo printing. I checked them out, there is very little information, no indication whatsoever of the time frame. Not impressed and will not use them.
