Can you explain venture capital to a 5th grader?
Check out this slide deck. Its an attempt by a VC at DFJ Gotham Ventures to explain venture capital to a 5th grader.
Its extremely unlikely that any 5th grader reads this blog. So what am I embedding it here? Well, this deck can actually be useful to lots of folks who are well past their school/education, let alone the 5th grade.
What do you think?

i guess some slides are missing
The slide where VC says why you need an experienced ice cream seller as head of company.
The slide Where VC tell the kid to introduce yet another flavor of vanilla so that product have mass apeeal .
and finally where the kid finds that 50% of his company enabled VC to buy an island in Bahamas and he can’t buy house for his parents cause money is locked down in stocks of acquiring company which he can’t sell for 3 years .

Prashant,
Good points…. another one that I would have liked to add is that the VC has to exit the ice cream investment after 3-4 years, and that factor changes many things straightaway

@prashant, @amit
to me this post along with the embedded presentation was a confluence of simplicity and useful knowledge.
Come on guys, this here is not the place to bring in contradictory facts (”points”) and discuss upon them. Just enjoy and educate without any superficial cognition.

Nice prezo..
My 5th graders is part of our startup! I was amazed to see that a 5th grader has an amazing sense of business, technology and marketing.
It would be nice to add additional resources that could point them to further reading..Ex. simple case studies.
