Yauba: World’s first Privacy Safe™ search engine… does this make any sense?

by Amit Ranjan on March 10, 2009

Yauba, an Indian/British search engine company has rolled out what it describes as the World’s First Privacy Safe™ search engine. Its USP lies in protecting users’ safety, security and privacy online. Yauba believes in the somewhat purist standpoint that global internet companies are grossly violating their users’ privacy. On its part, it assures users that their search details will not be tracked, recorded or sold to third part (unscrupulous) websites. Watch this video for details…

Yauba (and this is trivia) claims to have the smallest privacy policy for any internet service in the world. Check the screen shot below.

What about search quality itself? Does Yauba distinguish itself on that front at all? Well I did see something different on the search interface. You can search for a term and Yauba shows the basic result and along with it- photos, videos, documents, torrents(???), blogs, websites related to the term. It also searches and displays content from social networks like MySpace, Facebook, Hi5, LinkedIn, Bebo etc. The concept is not bad thought the page payout and design needs more careful thinking. Check out this search result for Delhi. Or for Al Qaeda.

Overall this looks a specialised serach engine and might find a few takers in those who are particular about their privacy controls. This could be government organisations, non-profits etc… I find it had to imagine it gaining ground as a mainstream search engine

Hi Sameer,

Better if you register Yauba at getsatisfaction.com. You will get better insights as users can directly give feedback.

Thanks,
Kartik

You really need to use AAfter search [ http://aafter.com ] for privacy because it does
not use any Java script based ad system.
