About
My Day Job:
I am Amit Ranjan, the Cofounder & COO of SlideShare. SlideShare is the world’s largest community for sharing presentations on the web. With 32 million monthly visitors, SlideShare is amongst the top 300 most visited websites on the internet.
I live in New Delhi, where I head SlideShare’s Delhi office. The last three years of my professional life have been consumed in building and scaling SlideShare into a global scale internet company. Launched in 2006, SlideShare is used by businesses, corporates, universities & individuals the world over. And it is counted amongst the leading social media destinations on the internet.
Beyond my Day Job:
I was an early instigator on the Indian technology startup scene. Started in 2006, this blog Webyantra (in its previous avatar of showcasing Indian Web 2.0) was trendsetting and was one of
the most widely read technology blogs in India. It was regarded as THE place to know about the latest in Indian Web 2.0. But the demands on my day job compelled me to abandon Webyantra’s raison d’etre, and now it is my personal blog where I share experiences on my startup journey.
I have been actively involved in organizing technology & innovation focused events in India.
I played a lead role in kick-starting the cult of technology ‘unconferences’ called BarCamps (www.barcamp.org) by organising India & Asia’s first such event in New Delhi in March’06. BarCamps have since gone on to become quite a rage, with dozens of such events having been organised across various Indian cities. They are perceived as a rallying force in stimulating grassroots level tech entrepreneurship in India.
I was part of the organising team of Proto.in (www.proto.in), the biannual event that showcases innovative tech startups in India. I have previously done podcasting for Podtech.net
(a Silicon Valley based podcasting website) where I interviewed tech influencers in the Indian internet industry.
As somebody who understands the consumer internet space in India, I have been fortunate enough to be quoted in the print & online media and interviewed on national television.
I speak at tech/internet conferences about startups, entrepreneurship, technology, internet marketing, Web 2.0.
My Previous Background:
Prior to SlideShare, I had a career in product marketing, sales & consumer research, having worked for Pepsico, Asian Paints & Godrej. I did my MBA from FMS, Delhi University (’99 batch) & a Mechanical Engineering degree from REC Jaipur (’96 batch).
